Description

Adam looked around him wildly. Where had Derek gone? Somehow or other the pair of them had got separated and he was anxious. If this note would lead them into another trap like the last one...
He held his breath, his heartbeat quickening with every minute. "Derek," he muttered, "where are you?"
A squealing noise like an animal in pain made him start and spin around, sword at the ready. A ragged wolf was running towards him at top speed. He prepared himself but to his surprise the animal darted past him. Only one thing would make a wolf ignore potential prey; fire! He ran in the direction the wolf had come from and found that he was right, A small bush was on fire beneath the ledge upon which he now stood. Amid the flames, he could just make out what looked like a crudly made arrow. "Derek!" he cried and ran in the direction he assumed Derek had gone in. Something swept over his head as he ran; a lrage white bord; no, not just any kind of bird, a swan. He plunged onwards and burst through a clearing, almost toppling suddenly into a great bubling pit full of mud. He steadied himself just in time and then jumped back when he saw what was floating on top of the mud; a bow. Derek's bow!
"Derek!"
He turned. The swan was beside him and she grabbed a vine from a nearby tree and swept towards the mud pit. "Odette, no!" Adam shouted but she had already plunged into the pit. Adam grabbed the end of the vine and began to tug. "Hold on, Derek," he muttered and then he felt someone pulling the vie. A mud-covered hand came up and then suddenly a gasping Derek came to the surface with Odette the swan draped over his shoulder. Adam breathed out. "Thank God!" he exclaimed. "I thought you were both goners there for a minute!"
"Derek."
"Odette?" Derek looked up at her. "How did you-? What happened?"
"There's no time to explain. We have to get back to the castle."
"Odette. Thank you. And you, Adam."
"Well, Adam said, proffering him a hand to pull him to his feet. "I couldn't let you drown. Where's Belle?" he asked of Odette.
"The last time I saw her she was with the others being chased by Clavius."
The trio began to sprint, or in Odette's case, fly back towards the castle when suddenly they saw the balloon overhead. "That's him." Odette gasped. "He's got the orb!"
"What?"
"The Forbidden Arts. As long as he has it, I'm stuck as a swan."
"You two should follow him,"Adam said. "I'm going back to the castle. I just hope Belle's alright."

Belle was far more than alright; in fact she was already within the confines of the same forest upon Phillipe's back as they spoke. Presently she urged Phillipe to slow his pace. She had never been this far into the forest before and she was a little scared. "Nothing to be afraid of, Belle," she told herself. "Come on, you have to find Adam."
She urged Phillipe to trot onwards until a rippling growl made her freeze and Phillipe too. She spun around. Wolves! A whole pack of them! "Oh, no!" she moaned and urged Phillipe to run. The wolves chased after the pair of them, no matter which way she turned Phillipe, they were following. And then suddenly one of them leapt at her, knocking her from Phillipe's back and onto the forest floor. She rolled with it, trying to avoid it's teeth and claws but now that she was on the ground, the other wolves were closing in. One grasped her cloak in it's jaws. Another approached her, snapping and snarling. She screamed.
And then suddenly something hit the wolf that was holding her. The other pounced but someone else was there now, thrashing the wolves with a sword and knocking them away from her. Phillipe kicked two with his hooves and after the second kick, the wolves turned and ran for their lives. Belle shook her head and looked up in relief.
"Adam!" She scrambled to her feet and flunger herself into his arms, clinging to him desparately. "Oh, Adam!"
"Are you hurt?" he asked.
"No, just shaken. My God, I was worried you'd been hurt. Odette said that you were heading into a trap; you and Derek-"
Her voice had reached a hysterical pitch. He put his hands on her arms. "Belle, calm down, we're all fine."

If Adam had known in those moments just how wrong he was... For at that minute, Odette had had both her wings tied to her body by Clavius' henchman Knuckles and had just been flung from his cable car. As Belle and Adam galloped into their midst, Derek cut the lines on the car, sending it hurtling into the chasm below. He swung from one and caught Odette with his free arm.
"Oh, no," Belle muttered. "How do we get across?"
"We're going to have to swing too." Adam took hold of one of the ropes and held his arm out to her. "Hold onto me."
"Hold on!" Belle called. "We're coming!"

Boy, Belle about to be in harm's way (by wolves) until Adams saves her life really never gets old at all. I still love that part.
